As we begin therapy together, we will talk about what is troubling you and how you want to change. Then we will decide what approach to solving your problems will work best for you. From then on, your job will be to make yourself fully known to me by revealing your feelings and experiences. My role will be to listen carefully, sometimes between the lines. I will often act as a mirror, enabling you to see aspects of yourself you couldn’t see before. Perhaps I will point out a new perspective you hadn’t thought about or I may reinforce what you have already been considering.
Therapy is usually ultimately rewarding; however, in the short term it can at times be painful and demanding. I will go at your pace, while providing support and encouragement. You’ll know you are ready to stop therapy when you are back in control of your life again, understand yourself better, and feel that you have learned more effective ways to encounter your challenges.
